DEATH OF MRS. MARY GLASSBRENNER
Aged Mother of Large Family Dies
After Long Illness-Was Well
Known.
Mrs. Mary Glassbrenner, affectionately known as “Aunt Mary,” diedSaturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Wade, in WestNinth street, where she had made her home for several years. She wasthe widow of the late “Uncle” John Glassbrenner, and was about 80years of age. She spent the last two years or longer in bed, being avictim of paralysis, and death has been hovering near her for sometime.
She was the mother of the Glassbrenner family-one of the largest inthis vicinity when descendants are counted, and during her active lifeshe was a woman who would mother the world if she could. She wastenderly, sympathetic, and good and kind and charitable.
She and her husband farmed for several years after their marriage,which occurred in St. Louis. The farm was in Jersey County west ofAlton on the Grafton road and there the children were born and reared.
As old age advanced and the children married, the old couple moved toNorth Alton and for several years conducted a small store in thebuilding at the corner of State and Rozier streets. After the death ofMr. Glassbrenner the widow went to live with one of the daughters.
The children surviving, are G. L. Glassbrenner of Florida, John andHenry of Missouri, Peter and William Glassbrenner of Alton. Thedaughters are Mrs. Joseph Kohler, Mrs. Bruce Rintoul, Mrs. JohnToupno, Mrs. John Grenzebach, Mrs. Charles Wade of Alton and Mrs.Jesse Starr of Oklahoma.
