Mrs. Kate Kohler wife of Joseph Kohler of 2417 Judson avenue, died at3:30 p, m. Saturday in Alton Memorial Hospital where she had been apatient since May 10. She was 74 last Jan. 4.
Mrs. Kohler had been in failing health since last November, but hadbeen up and about her home part of the time. On the morning of May 10she fell in her home and suffered a broken hip. From the date of theaccident she had remained in the hospital and her decline had beensteady. During the last two weeks the condition of Mrs. Kohler hadbeen discouraging and those about her had given up hopes for recovery.
Mrs. Kohler was the daughter of the late George L. and MaryGlassbrenner, an old North Alton family. She was born at Newbern buthad spent, practically all her life In Alton. She was married toJoseph Kohler on April 5, 1887. The couple had resided In North Altonover a period of years. About five years ago they bought theirresidence property on Judson avenue and moved to Upper Alton to benear their only child, Mrs. Charles G. Scott of 2509 Judson avenue.
Mrs. Kohler had taken great interest, in the work of the Odd Fellowsand Rebekah fraternities. She vas a member of Alton Rebekah lodge andhad devoted much time to the organization and toward looking  afterthe sick. She was a kindly woman and was much loved by those abouther. Her close neighbors were her best friends.
On April 5, Mrs. Kohler and her husband observed their fifty-thirdwedding anniversary. In addition to the surviving daughter, Mrs. Scottthere are two grandsons, Kohler and Olin Scott. There are also sixsisters, Mrs. Ellen Wade, Mrs. Barbara Boady, Mrs. Mary GrenzebachMrs. Amelia Rintoul, Mrs. Sadie Starr, Mrs. Nettie Toupno, all ofAlton, and two brothers, John Glassbrenner of St. Louis, and Williamof Alton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Streeper funeral home.Burial will be in City cemetery. The body may be viewed by friends atthe funeral home up to time of funeral.
