DEATH CLAIMS ANOTHER ALTONIAN

Dr. Fred Glassbrenner succumbs to pneumonia after ten days illness.

Dr. Fred Glassbrenner, the well known veterinary surgeon andliveryman, died Thursday night at his home in North Alton after anillness from pneumonia which developed suddenly last Sunday.  He wasone of the most estimable and respected citizens of the Altons and hisdeath will be genuinely regretted wherever he was known, and that isin all parts of the state, as he frequently visited other sections ofIllinois in the practice of his profession.  He was considered one ofthe best veterinary surgeons in Illinois and his presence and voiceand council and state and district meetings were always desired andwelcomed by members of his profession.  For almost thirty years heconducted a livery stable in North Alton, disposing of the same only afew weeks ago, and the intended taking a long needed rest beforebecoming active in business of any kind again.

He was a genial man, an honest, upright, charitable man and the kindof citizen every community has too few of and can afford to be theleast.  A kind husband, a good citizen in every respect and a splendidneighbor was removed from earth when death claim him.

He was born in Wurtemberg Germany, 62 years ago, but came to thiscountry with his parents when a mere lad.  He was married 32 years agotomorrow to Miss Sadie Pierce of Godfrey and since that time they havelived for each other.  The anniversary was celebrated annually andpreparations had been made to celebrate the thirty-second anniversarytomorrow had not fate changed joy to grief.  He leaves besides hiswife, two brothers, John at Newbern and George Glassbrenner of St.Louis, and three sisters, Mrs. John Redmond of North Alton, Mrs. AntonHeisler of St. Louis and Mrs. John Winger of Newbern.  In addition itis estimated that fully 200 other relatives, blood and by marriage areliving in the Altons and vicinity.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home, where services will be conducted by Rev. A. G. Lane, pastor of theFirst Presbyterian church at Alton.
