Mrs. Barbara Redmond, 88, died yesterday at 5:45 a.m. at the home ofher daughter, Mrs. T.A. Miller, 1113 State Street.
Mrs. Redmond was a resident of Alton for 60 years. She was born inGermany Dec. 4 1835, at Wurtimburg. She came to St. Louis with herparents when 9 years old. Before marriage she was Miss BarbaraGlassbrenner. She was married to John Redmond on May 2, 1852. Herhusband died 31 years ago.
Mrs. Redmond is survived by five daughters, Mrs. J. G. Melling, Mrs.S.R. Tingley, Mrs. T.A. Miller, Mrs. Norman Challacombe and Mrs. M.W.Miller, all of Alton; one son, George, of Wood River; one sister, Mrs.Kate Winger, and a brother, George L. Glassbrenner, St. Louis. Sheleaves also 28 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs. Redmond was a woman held in loving esteem by all with whom shecame to contact. She was noted for her kindness and charity towardothers. Never was there a time, her friends say, that she had anopportunity to be of service to others that she did not perform thatservice. Her life, it seems, was consecrated to the performance ofkind deeds for others. Those who knew her best knew her as a woman ofcharacter, who loved her friends and all about her, who neverentertained any malice or ill will against anyone.
She was a fine neighbor, a good citizen, and one of the most devotedof mothers.
The funeral will be Wednesday, from the home of Mrs. Miller, 1113State Street, to SS. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral, where requiem masswill be celebrated. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
