Mrs. Glassbrenner Dies;
Member of Pioneer Family
Mrs. Sarah Pierce Glassbrenner, 81, whose parents homesteaded propertyin Godfrey area in 1850, and herself a resident in one place in theNorth Side for 50 years, died Sunday at 6 p. m., at the MatherHospital on Virden street where she had been a patient for months. Shewas the widow of Dr. Fred Glassbrenner, a veterinarian, who died 33years ago.
Mrs. Glassbrenner was the last 10 children of Charles and JuliaPierce, who made their way westward from Maine in 1850 seeking sitefor a home. Arriving in Illinois they found their way to Godfreytownship and there cleared ground and homcsteaded it. It was there May26, 1856 that Mrs.  Glassbrenner was born and there she grew to youngwomanhood.
She was married in 1874 to Fred Glassbrenner. The married life thecouple was spent in the place where Mrs. Glassbrenner had lived for 50years-237 West Elm street.
It was while walking about the lawn of her Elm street residence thatMrs. Glassbrenner received fatal injuries in a fall a year ago lastMay. She had been in failing health prior to the fall and an injury toher shoulder inflicted that time incapicated her until it wasnecessary for her to give up housekeeping. She entered the Matherhospital soon after being injured and had continued her residencethere until the time of her death.
She was a charter member of the Elm Street Presbyterian Church anduntil two years ago had been teacher of a Sunday school class there.For 15 years Mrs. Glassbrenner was instructor of the Gleaner’s class,an organization young women in the church.
Friends and neighbors knew her as a kindly woman. To many she wnsknown as “Aunt Sadie”. Affable
and always willing to give of her time and help to those in need, Mrs.Glassbrenner was sought by both young and old.
Her only survivors are nieces and nephews, all of her sisters andbrothers having preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a. m., at the Elm StreetPresbyterian Church with the pastor, the Rev. J. N. Morrison,officiating. Burial will be in the old Pierce family lot in Godfreycemetery. The body will be at the Luly Bros, funeral chapel, 2514State street, after 7 p. m. today where friends may call.
