Syrus Beford Langford, 66, of 508 Milton Rd., a retired electrician,died at 8:45 a.m. today in St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he had been apatient for a week. He had been ill for the past two months and apatient in Alton Memorial Hospital for 12 days before entering St.Joseph’s Hospital.
He had resided at the Milton road home for the past 30 years and hadworked at his trade of electrician at Shell Oil Co., for 12 years andthen as an electrician on construction work in the area for 12 years.
A native of Missouri, he was born Nov. 28, 1892, in Lincoln County,Mo. While residing in Lincoln County he affiliated with the ChristianChurch and had maintained his membership there.
He was a member of Milton-Wood River Sportsmans Club and belonged toInternational Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 649.
Surviving are his wife, the former Maude Dell LaRue, to whom he wasmarried in 1911; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Fay, Alton, and four sons,Cyrus William, John Edward, and Otis R., Alton, and Marvin L., EastAlton. He also leaves four brothers, John T., and Alfred Norton,Winfield, Mo., Reuben Martin, St. Charles, Mo., and Sam of St. Louis,Mo., and four sisters, Mrs. Gladys LaRue, Mrs. Elsie Day, Mrs. SuzyDlxon, and Mrs. Bertha Berkhead, all of Winfield, Mo.
The Rev, Gilbert R. Schreiber, pastor of First Church of Christ,Christian, Wood River, will conduct funeral rites Monday at 2 p.m. inSmith Funeral Home, Alton. Burial will be In Upper Alton Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday.
