The following is a 50th Wedding Anniversary 3/17/1925 Love Idyl
by Dr. Charles Wise Davis

The bee through many a garden roves
And hums his lay of courtship o'er
But when he finds the flower he loves
He settles there and hums no more.

So I when young and in my prime
Like the humming bee in the summer time
My errant fancy oft when roaming
And purveyed sweets from lips and cheeks
In the halcyon days of my adolescence.

But one bright day in the month of May
My errant fancy idly roaming
I met my true love on my way
She too that day was idly roaming
With sparkling eyes and smiling lips
She stole my heart away from me.

She clipped my Fancy's painted pinnions
And made a loving slave of me.

Then she embraced and kissed me
Since that day full many a year has come and gone
But my errant fancy has stayed at home
And never since that jocund day
Has fettered fancy gone astray.

This Idyl is dedicated to my darling wife,
as a slight token of appreciation of all
her motherly goodness and kindness to me
during 50 short years of wedded life.
