Chamberlain
Harold W. Chamberlain, Rte. 1, Godfrey, retired painter and longtimemember of Alton Local 471,  Painters Union, died Thursday at 4:12 p.m.in Alton Memorial Hospital.
He had been in ill health for two years and a patient in the hospitaltwo days.
A life-long resident of Alton and Godfrey area he was born Dec.7,1873, in Alton. His father the late Harry Chamberlain was one ofAlton’s early druggists.
He had lived near Godfrey for 32 years.
Mr. Chamberlain attended the Alton Schools and was graduated fromRoosevelt High School in Alton and studied sign painting in Chicago.
He was a veteran of World War I.
He had worked as a sign painter in Alton area for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Piasa Lodge 27, AF & AM.
His marriage to the former Katherine Lindley, member of an old Godfreyarea family, took place May 6, 1921, in Alton.
Survivors are his widow, a daughter, Mrs. S. W. Lawenda, Los Angeles,Calif., and two sons, Harold L., Godfrey, and Homer R., Wood River; asister, Mrs. E. G. Smith, Springfield, Mo., and seven  grandchildren.
Two brothers and a grand child preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Gent Chapel withthe Rev. Judson Souers, pastor of the First Methodist Church ofGodfrey, officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park.
Visiting hours at the chapel will be after 7 p.m. today.
Members of Alton Painters Local 471 will assemble at the funeral homeat 7 p.m. today to pay their respects.
(This obituary notice is in error with regard to Harold Chamberlain’sbirth year. It should have read 1893. Also, it lists the time of deathas 4:12 p.m. while the death certificate lists it as 4:12 a.m.)

Funeral services for Harold W. Chamberlain, 70, retired painter, wereheld at 11 a.m. today with members of Alton Local 471 Painters Unionas pallbearers.
The Rev. Judson Souers, pastor of First Methodist Church, Godfrey,officiated at services at 11 a.m. in Gent Chapel, and at ValhallaMemorial Park.
Casketbearers were John A. Lyon, Harry Kulp, Glenn Rodgers, GeorgeGriffin, E. J. Estes, and Jack Buese.
