Peter Glassbrener has received a letter from his brother G. L.G1assbrenner, of Jacksonville, Fla., to which he states that heintends to bring back the body of his son, Fred Glasbrenner, who dieda hero’s on the battlefield of France, back to Alton and lay him torest among his friends.
Fred made the supreme sacrifice at the battle of Argonne woods.
The father also requests The Evening Telegraph to convey words ofthanks to the people of Alton who extended so much sympathy, to thefamily in their bereavement.

The War Department today officially announced that Fred L.Glassbrenner, formerly an Alton boy, has been awarded theDistinguished Service Cross by General Pershing, in the name ofPresident Wilson, for extraordinary heroism.
Glassbrenner was the son of George L. Glassbrenner, at present living146 East Fourth street, Jacksonville. Fla.
The official announcement, which will be of great interest to theyoung man’s Alton friends and relatives, states:
“Private (first-class) Fred L. Glassbrenner, deceased, of HeadquartersCompany, 119th Infantry, for extraordinary heroism in action nearBlllicourt, France, September 29, 1918.
Private Glassbrenner was advancing with the one-pounder gun section,when he was wounded in the leg by machine gun bullet and was urged goto the rear.
“He, nevertheless, continued to advance and was later killed uponleaving a sheltered position to go to the assistance of anotherwounded soldier.”
