  GERALD 'JERRY' BACHMAN, PH.D.
  DES PERES, MO. - Gerald L. "Jerry" Bachman, Ph.D., 81, passed away athis home in Des Peres, Mo., at 3:36 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014,after a year-long battle with bladder cancer.
  He was born Oct. 6, 1932 in Alton, Ill., the son of the late Henry andBirdie (Brueggman) Bachman. Jerry was raised on a farm in Godfrey,Ill. He graduated from the University of Illinois and received a Ph.D.from Washington University. He devoted his career to scientificpursuits, earning a number of patents. He retired as ProcessDevelopment Director at Monsanto Co. in 1995, after 34 years. Jerrywas a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
  On May 11, 1957, in Alton he married Barbara L. Chamberlain and shesurvives.
  Also surviving are two sons, Steve (Rebekah) Bachman of Amarillo,Texas, and Mike Bachman of Godfrey; and one brother, Don Bachman(Marijo) of St. Louis.
  He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Bachman; his parents; andhis stepmother, Ruth Bachman.
  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Gent Funeral Home with the Reverend JerryMeCaskey to officiate. Burial will be private.
  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American CancerSociety or charity of choice .
