- Frederick B. Chamberlain was born in St. Louis, November 27, 1866.His mother was the former Laura Ann Simmons. His father, FrederickBradley Chamberlain, Sr., was founder, in 1846, of a feed and foodproducts company in St. Louis. The son attended Smith Academy, andthen went to Washington University. On April 22, 1897, Mr.Chamberlain was married in St. Louis to Miss Abby W. Goddard, daughterof Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Goddard.
Mr. Chamberlain left college in his junior year to enter his father'sfirm. His father died in 1897, and the firm was reincorporated in1901 as the F. B. Chamberlain Company, with Mr. Chamberlain aspresident, a position he held until 1937, when he was made chairman ofthe board. He joined the Merchants Exchange in 1889, became adirector in 1912, and served as its president in 1928. At the time ofhis death he was the oldest member of the Exchange. Mr. Chamberlainalso served on the Business Men's League, and Civic League; inpolitics he was a Republican. His social clubs were the Contemporaryand City. His hobbies were traveling, and bowling; he also had anactive interest in many sports.
Mr. Chamberlain died of infirmities at Bernard Nursing Home, September23, 1957. Prior to entering the nursing home, Mr. Chamberlain hadlived at the Winston Churchill Apartments since the death of his wifein 1954. There were no children, and no immediate survivors.Services were held at Alexander and Sons Chapel, September 24, 1957,with burial in Bellefountaine Cemetery.
