John Franklin Simpson Jr., 83, went to be with the Lord at 2:05 p.m.Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton withhis family by his side.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1924, in Alton, the son of John F. and Helen(Everett) Simpson Sr.
He married the former Viola Baker on Sept. 30, 1945, in Cottage Hills.She survives.
He served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Army and worked inthe shipping department at the Olin Corporation for more than 43years, retiring in June 1983.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children and their spouses,Mike Simpson of Florissant, Dannie Simpson of Bethalto, James andCindy Simpson of Wood River, Rhonda and Ed Tobias of Collinsville,Ill., and Karen and the Rev. Terry McKinzie of Rosewood Heights; ninegrandchildren, Shawna, John, Todd, Tom, Katie and Jamie Simpson andMegan, Ashley and Zachary McKinzie; one great-grandchild, Ross; onesister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Jerry King of Bethalto; onebrother, Marvin Simpson of Fulton, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Melvin, Buddyand Floyd Simpson; and one sister, Pearl Graham.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elias, Kallal and SchaafFuneral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hearts HarvestFellowship Church, 111 Sheridan St. in Bethalto, with the Rev. TerryMcKinzie officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, withmilitary rites being by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or SouthwesternIllinois Dialysis Center.
