Killed in Action
George Patrick Redmond, USMC, was killed in action at Iwo Jima, March24, according to word received by his grandmother, Mrs. MargaretRedmond, of 1701 Kienen, St. Louis, formerly of Alton.
On March 10, he cabled his grandmother that he was safe and soundafter seven days on Iwo Jima. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. GeorgeRedmond of Twin Falls, Ida.
Redmond attended St. Mary’s School and Cathedral at Belleville, Ill.,and memorial requiem mass will be read there Tuesday.
Besides his parents and grandmother he is survived by three sisters,Kathleen, who resides with her grandmother, and Patricia and Marcella,who reside with the parents in Idaho.

Pvt. G. Redmond
For Alton Burial
The body of Pvt. George P. Redmond, which arrived March 22 at the portof San Francisco aboard the United States Army transport WalterSchwenk, will be forwarded through the American Graves RegistrationDistribution Center, Kansas City, Mo., to Alton for final interment.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. George Redmond of Twin Falls, Ida., Pvt.Redmond was killed at Iwo Jima March 24, 1945. He served with Co. D,Second Battalion, 20th Marines and Fifth Division of the Marine Corps.
He was born Dec. 14, 1925, at Hibbing, Minn., and attended St. Mary’sschool, Alton, and Cathedral at Belleville.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters: Mrs. KathleenKenfick, St. Louis, Mrs. Gwendlyn Heaviside, Los Angeles, Calif., andMarcella Redmond, Twin Falls, and his grandmother, Mrs, MargaretRedmond of St. Louis, formerly of Alton.
The body will be taken to the Streeper funeral home on arrival inAlton, and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery,
