Dies; Was Long Ill
After an extended period of illness during which pneumonia developed,John Herschel Glassbrenner, 54, 3146 Edwards street, died at 1:10 p.m. Monday in St. Anthony’s Infirmary. He had been a patient at theInfirmary for ten weeks.
Glassbrenner was born in Alton Jan. 8, 1889, a son of the late WilliamT. Glassbrenner, who died last Dec. 7, and Mrs. Mary Glassbrenner. Hewas educated in public schools and in early life followed the trade ofa machinist, later engaging in sale of automobiles.
Most of his life was spent in Alton, but at brief periods he wasemployed in other cities. In the last eight months he had conducted atavern at Lindberg park.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Lester of Alton,and Paul F. Glassbrenner who is in army service, and sister, Mrs, RuthKenney of Charleston; West Virginia.
By coincidence, Paul F. Glassbrenner arrived home on furloughyesterday at the hour of his brother’s death. After 11 weeks in WalterReid hospital at Washington, where he underwent surgical treatment, hehad been granted leave Sunday and started at once for Alton. Membersof the family had not known he was on the way home, and he arrivedwhen they were making an effort by wire to get into communication withhim.  Mrs. Kenney was expected to arrive today in response to amessage telling of her brother’s death.
The body is at the Morrow-Quinn funeral home at Sixth and Henrystreets, where friends may call after 6 p. m. today. The funeral riteswill be at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home, services to beconducted by the Rev. Marsden E. Whitford, rector of St. Paul’s Churchof which Mr. Glassbrenner was a member. Burial will be in OakwoodCemetery.

Funeral services for John Herschel Glassbrenner of 3146 Edwardsstreet, who died Monday, were conducted Thursday at 2:30 p. m. atMorrow-Quinn funeral home by the Rev. Marsden E. Whitford, rector ofSt. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rasmoth Franklin, Thomas Henry, James Callahan, E. F.McCracken, Adrian Aldrldge, and George Miller.
Among out-of-town relatives in attendance at the funeral were Mrs.Ruth Kenney of Charleston, West Virginia, a sister, and PaulGlassbrenner, who is in army service, and had been in a hospital atWashington, D. C.
